Manor on the Thames
A Grade 2 listed Tudor Manor with gardens which extend down to the River Thames. We have been helping to maintain and develop this garden for over 10 years. The garden consists of formal herbaceous borders near to the house with mature yew hedging, a series of small ponds planted with bog garden plants, a medieval canal, orchard and a potager garden.
Oxford Lawns and Gardens have rejuvenated the planting and reshaped existing borders, developed and had built the potager garden, planted an orchard to include old fruit varieties, planted a new formal area on the west face of the house. Created a avenue of yew cones and this year (2020) a large iris bed. Formality is also added by using planters and pots with topiary and all woodwork and iron work finished in the same colour.
A challenge of this garden is that the soil in this garden is loam, beautiful to work but dries out in an instant, however in winter we also have to contend with the Thames flooding and ground water rising.
